Supporting Women Into Work: Castle and Dress for Success

Preparing for work takes more than a resume and a job application. For many women, having the right clothing and support ahead of an interview or new job can make all the difference. That’s why Castle often connects participants with organisations like Dress for Success, who specialise in helping women who are experiencing hardship to take the next step toward employment by providing professional workwear, styling and personalised support.

Dress for Success is a global organisation that has been operating in Newcastle for more than six years, supporting hundreds of women through its Broadmeadow showroom. In 2025 alone, the team delivered more than 500 client services, helping women build confidence, prepare for job opportunities and strengthen their long-term career prospects.

Many women who come through the doors of Dress for Success are facing significant barriers to employment. Some are returning to the workforce after time away, rebuilding their lives after domestic violence, living with disability or health condition, or overcoming financial hardship. Others are preparing for important milestones such as job interviews, court appearances or starting a new role.

All services are provided at no cost, no strings attached.

Mary, who has volunteered with Dress for Success for five years, says she regularly sees the difference these sessions make.

“Usually, clients come in a bit hesitant because they’re not confident,” she says. “But as we go through the process you can see a change in their demeanour. They’re not the same person when they leave as they were when they came in.”

For Castle participants preparing for employment, this type of support can complement the work our teams are already doing around job readiness, applications and interview preparation. By connecting participants with community partners like Dress for Success, we can help remove practical barriers and ensure people feel ready to step into opportunities with confidence.

To mark International Women’s Day this year, Castle teams also came together to support the organisation by donating clothing and shoes suitable for interviews and professional workplaces. These donations help Dress for Success continue providing high-quality outfits to women who need them most.

Dress for Success relies on strong community support to continue their work, from clothing donations and volunteers to fundraising events such as their popular Fashion Frenzy sales.

If you would like to support Dress for Success, you can donate suitable clothing, volunteer your time or refer someone who may benefit from their services. The Newcastle showroom operates Tuesday to Thursday, or by appointment.
